“Former refuge, destroyed by an avalanche in February 1999.”
Our parents, Roland and Elisabeth MOGENIER transformed their small alpine chalet and created the refuge in 1981, for the love of the mountains and nature.
Keepers of the premises for over 30 years, time for retirement has arrived. It is with passion and motivation that we took over the family business.

The refuge is located at 1877 meters and is only accessible by foot. It is made up of 5 chalets and has a capacity of 54 beds divided into 2 dormitories.
Accessing the refuge is easy, it is particularly suitable for families. In addition, the climb is dotted with waterfalls, which makes it a particularly popular route.
Young and old everyone can admire the variety of flora and fauna present on the path and on the Sales plateau. It is not uncommon to surprise marmots and ibexes and if you are observant and lucky, you may even see an eagle or a bearded vulture.
Geology enthusiasts will also be delighted by the richness of the site.
We offer simple mountain cuisine that favors local products : soup, fondue, hiker’s plate, garnished omelet, and homemade desserts…
In 1857, there were a hundred chalets grouping some 500 animals, cows, donkeys, horses.
The wood needed for the construction was mounted on men’s backs from Sixt Fer à Cheval. Every July 15, the women, young people and the elderly “climbed up” while the men stayed in the village “to make hay”.
We worked the milk on the sport and every day a man brought up the supplies and brought down the cheeses. On september 8, everyone returned to the valley. Then for lack of manpower (war of 14-18, rural exodus), the owners had to hire shepherds coming from Switzerland or Italy. In the 1970s, pastoral life stopped and the chalets were abandoned.
They have since been restored and are now very popular “second homes”.
As the refuge is only accessible by foot, the supply is only done on the back of men for fresh products and by helicopter for the rest of the goods 3 or 4 times a season.
The mountain environment is a fragile ecosystem that must be preserved, so we are very vigilant about waste disposal, which has been up there for more than 30 years ! Supplies are carried up by men for fresh products and by helicopter for the rest of goods.
Energy is limited and precious, electricity is produced by solar panels. The water comes from a small source which requires special attention in terms of consumption.
Life at this altitude requires you to be indulgent… amenities are not nearby ! Thus, sometimes some products are missing…
In the valley, no mobile phone works, regardless of the operator.
Our energy production being limited, we cannot always ensure the charging of your portable devices.
